Facebook booming in Belgium

Old news maybe but I am surprised to see more and more people on Facebook. Even old school mates start to connect which I didn’t hear the past 9 years. It seems that the dutch version had his effect! More than 1 million belgian users, compared to 200.000 last year…’not bad Mark’ I would say :-) Netlog finally has a competitor in belgium now which stays nr1 with more then 2 million active users. The nr2, Myspace is feeling the breath of Facebook. I created our nieuwsblad.be product page a few days ago and our Sportwereld page on Netlog is there since a while now.

  • My phone knows everything about me

Nokia campaign playing with the idea that half of people’s private life is on their cell phone these days. The whole 2.0 spectrum is used at its full capacity again: 2 youtube video’s, all characters of the campaign have a Facebook page en a flashy site where you can subscribe to be notified when the cell phone unlocks.

Only question now: is it a new Nokia model, or just a buzz campaign?

P.S.: The other half of people’s private life is on Facebook by the way :)

  • QuittersArcade

A very nice campaign by Pfizer!! It can’t be any more viral…

QuittersArcade.com consists of a free set of retro arcade computer games you can embed on your blog or your Facebook profile to challenge your friends. The three games available are all adaptations of well-known arcade games: Pack Man, Fogger and Bin-it!

You have two possibilities to play and share them: visit www.QuittersArcade.com or add the games to your personal blog by a simple copy-paste of a HTML snippet. Players can compete against each other, with a scoreboard for registered users. An “interblog” scoreboard lists the leading blogs and URLs.

In addition to your blog, you can also display the Pack-Man as a widget (application) on your Facebook profile and invite your friends to participate. The end goal is to encourage players to seek help from a doctor, reject smoking and all its paraphernalia and most importantly, to triumph over addiction.

    Here is my favorite!

  • 2008 hot trends

If you have missed the 2008 hot trends, you can find them on Read/Write Web.
What I have noticed is that Mobile is in the list again, I have seen that a few times in there before but it never lifted off like it should (to me). Let’s see what it brings this year…

  • Facebook and privacy?

What if Facebook was an application of the United States’ security services to monitor and get to know all of us. Our interests, our character, our friends, our friends’ friends, our hobbies, movies we like and dislike, books we like an dislike, … Feed all of this info into their datamining and monitoring systems and next time you try to enter the USA … you might be flagged as potential terrorist for reading the wrong books and liking the wrong people! This video sure makes you think twice …

  • The Google effect?

Nice graph by compete.com on the evolution of YouTube since they were acquired by Google.

    Growth social media 2007

Is it the Google effect, or just the buzz buzzing the buzz?
